Why Lake Texoma is Great for Striper Fishing
Lake Texoma, located 15 miles southwest of Durant, OK, is one of the largest reservoirs in the US. It is the 12th largest Corps of Engineers (USACE) lake, and the largest in USACE Tulsa District. But more importantly the lake is considered by many Lake Texoma striper fishing guides to be one of the best for striper fishing lakes in the country.
Lake Texoma is one of the most popular and most developed lake in the area. It attracts over 6 million visitors a year. With the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and hours away to the south, and the Oklahoma City Metro area a couple of hours away to the north you can see why it attracts such a large number of tourists.
Our two Lake Texoma fishing guides, Sparky and J.C., knew a few facts about Lake Texoma;
- The lake was stocked with striped bass in the late 1960s. and has proven to be an excellent habitat for them.
- It is one of the seven U.S. inland lakes where the striped bass reproduce naturally, instead of being farmed and released into the waters.
- The “stripers” feed on large schools of shad, and often reach sizes of 12 to 20 pounds (5 to 9 kg).
- Lake record striper is 35.12 lb (15.93 kg) caught April 25, 1984.
- The town of Kingston, Oklahoma, celebrates the importance of striper fishing to the local area with the annual Kingston Striper Festival each September.
So there you have a little bit of info on why Lake Texoma is awesome for striper fishing and why Lake Texoma fishing guides such as myself consider Lake Texoma tops for great fishing and fun.
Hope to see you on the lake real soon. Book a trip right know, I guarantee you will have fun.
